Jillian Fitzpatrick | INTERTIDAL
10.04.2025—11.05.2025

Launch: Wednesday 9 April 6–8PM

INTERTIDAL offers the story of the eel and the cormorant, using the intertidal zone as both a concept and a conduit for their journey. The eel moves from the river to the sea, with the intertidal zone as a space of transitioning. The cormorant watches from above, offering a window into this migration and the depths of the ocean. The ocean has long been a source of inspiration and reverence, much of it still unknown. INTERTIDAL invites you into this threshold, where survival and adaptation unfold in an intricate dance between the land and the sea.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jillian Fitzpatrick (b. 1996, Gunaikurnai country, AU) is a multidisciplinary artist based on the unceded lands of the Palawa people. Primarily an oil painter, she also works with woodcarving, printmaking and textiles. Drawing on her ecological knowledge and understanding gained through her studies and career within marine conservation, Fitzpatrick seeks to share stories of the environment through her art. Fitzpatrick's artistic journey began with a focus on abstraction, dreamscapes, the subconscious, and mysticism during her time studying Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts. Fitzpatrick exhibited her first solo show, Mud Bath, at New Statue in 2022. This show marked her transition to naturalistic painting, evolving from her earlier work while continuing to explore similar themes. Fitzpatrick has exhibited her work in Melbourne and Gippsland, AU.
